Ginecomasty affects approximately 50% of men. It can affect only one breast or both. While certain medications and genetic disorders have been linked to excessive growth of the male breast, there is a cause established in the vast majority of cases.
For those who are anxious about their appearance, surgery can help. The procedure removes fat and glandular tissue of the breasts and in extreme cases removes excess skin, resulting in a more flat, strong, and better defined chest.
The best candidates for surgery are those with firm and elastic skin and who are emotionally stable.
The procedure is not performed in obese men or those who drink alcohol excessively.
Anabolic steroids can also cause ginecomasty. Therefore, patients should discontinue the use to see if the abnormality decreases before the procedure should be considered as an option.
The first consultation
With Beauty Renaissance the first consultation is free of charge and is always with your surgeon who will assess and discuss your desired results.
The surgeon will also answer all your questions and discuss the expectations that the client may have. Therefore, the surgeon will recommend the best solution for the procedure.
The surgeon will examine to verify the causes of ginecomasty. Among the studies it is recommended a mammogram is undertaken. Once the surgeon knows how much fat or glandular exist, you can choose the appropriate surgical technique.
Smoking decreases circulation and interferes with healing. Therefore, it is essential to follow the instructions of your surgeon in this regard.

The Procedure
It can be done under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthetic. The surgeon will recommend the most appropriate option in your case.
If excess glandular tissue is the primary cause, it will be removed surgically. This can be done alone or in conjunction with liposuction of the surrounding fat. In a typical procedure, an incision is made in a discreet location at the edge of the areola. Through the incision, the surgeon removes the excess glandular tissue and fat.
If the ginecomasty is predominantly fatty, the surgeon will use a spike liposuction technique to remove excess fat through a small incision on the edge of the areola.
In extreme cases the skin can be redundant and should be removed to allow better adjustment to the chest wall.
After Care
Some feel discomfort for a few days after the procedure which can be controlled with medication prescribed by the surgeon. Note that you should wear a compression garment continuously for a week or two, and two weeks only at night.
It will take about a month before you can return to all your normal activities.
Will I have scars?
You should avoid exposing the scars to the sun for six months. Sunlight may affect pigmentation of the skin, causing the scar to black out permanently. If sun exposure is unavoidable, you should use sunscreen 60.
Results
The results of the procedure are significant and permanent. If your expectations are realistic, you will be satisfied with the result and your new look.
